You can get better

I first used meth at the age 17, I continued to use meth off and on for the next 16 years of my life, it was not until I was 25 that I became addicted and totally dependent on meth to function in my daily life(at least I thought I was functioning) I was able to maintain a job and keep a roof over my head. I did not always have electric or a phone but I always had my meth. I married when I was 25 to another meth addict we made a great team. We were always chasing after that next line. We both had normal jobs and thought no one knew what we were and for the most part we did have all fooled. We had our fist child when I was 29 I recall the night my wife went into labor and kneeling down next to the chair she was in and holding the mirror with a huge line on it for her before we went to the delivery room. We were blessed that our daughter came out normal. We continued living our same lives even though we now had a child. Our apartment was barely liveable trash and junk everywhere. It was a nightmare. My using took a turn for the worst when I started smoking the meth shortly after our second daughter was born, I could not get enough it was a euphoria like never before all our money was now going up in smoke. When I turned 33 I had to have a stomach surgery which meant I needed to stop using for 48 hours, I was able to do this and went in the hospital had the surgery and was released and I was ready to go again. But this time I got my family together and told them I had a huge drug problem and needed help. My brother contacted NA central in San Diego and I went to a meeting that day, this was the start of a whole new world for me I started doing three and four meetings a day. I did this for a year, I had service commitments and my life was improving everyday. Oh yeah and my wife after seeing my world improve got clean four moths later. I have not used again since 8/8/94 I have a wealth of friends who are clean and sober, I am now raising my grandson and life has never been better.
