Toddler tests positive for meth; mom arrested

A Weatherford woman was arrested Wednesday on a felony child endangerment charge after her then 2-year-old son reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

Delena Pool, 38, was charged with engaging in conduct that placed a child younger than 15 years old in imminent danger of death, bodily injury or physical or mental impairment after she reportedly admitted to smoking methamphetamine around the child.

CPS reportedly received a report of neglectful supervision of the child in April 2013.

During a meeting with CPS in April, Pool admitted to using methamphetamine on the weekends and Monday, and that she smoked the illegal substance while the child was in her residence, according to court records.

Pool also tested positive for methamphetamine use several weeks prior to the child’s removal, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Pool agreed to a safety plan requiring a family member to supervise contact between the mother and toddler, according to court records. However, CPS reportedly discovered during an unanounced home visit in May that the mother and child were not supervised overnight and the boy was removed.

The child’s foster parents reported that when they received the boy, he slept for 12 hours and then took a three-hour nap the same day he awoke from the 12-hour sleep, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Several days later, a drug test using the boy’s hair was performed, according to Weatherford police. The child tested positive for amphetamine/methamphetamine at a level that was at the high end of the scale for “low” or “recreational” use, Weatherford police detective Troy Leucke wrote.

Pool was released from the Parker County Jail Friday on $40,000 bond, according to jail records.

CPS also found reason to believe Pool neglectfully supervised her three children in 2006 after Pool tested positive for methamphetamine use and missed an important medical appointment for one of her children, according to court records, which state a family member was caring for Pool’s older children when the boy was removed in May.

The Democrat made an attempt to contact Pool but was unable to reach her Monday.
