Woman gets makeover after winning battle against meth addiction

Myfoxphoenix.com, December 2, 2013

GLENDALE, Ariz. - It's one of the worst drugs out there -- meth physically breaks down your body and also attacks the teeth.

That's what happened to one woman, but now she's getting a new look.

Sarai smiles all the time now, but for a long time, she wouldn't smile at all.

"I was addicted to drugs for 17 years.. I had a reckless lifestyle," she said.

The drug of choice -- meth -- and it destroyed her teeth.

"I wouldn't like to talk to people.. they could see how bad my teeth looked.. I felt guilt and shame," she said.

Sarai ended up in prison and surprisingly it was her salvation.

"Getting my teeth fixed changed my life. It's the best thing that ever happened to me. I have confidence."

She got a complete makeover at Rolf's Salon in Glendale.

None of this would be happening if it wasn't for Linda Parker and her Smiles Behind the Bars charity.

"She was 26-years-old and such a beautiful girl. I looked at her and I said we are going to get you some teeth," said Parker.

And she did. Sarai has a good job and recently received a promotion -- and she loves her new look for her new life.

Smiles Beyond the Bars started three years ago. It has fixed the teeth of 70 people.
