Phoenix couple find birthday card with $1,000 in crystal meth in mailbox
Nydailynews.com, October 9, 2013
An Arizona couple were stunned to open a birthday card and find $1,000 worth of crystal meth stuffed inside.
In a scene straight out of “Breaking Bad,” the 81- and 73-year-olds could only stare in shock as they pulled the post out of their mailbox.
The card was unwritten, and from the printed birthday message someone had inked an arrow pointing to the bag of drugs.
The couple, who have lived in their Phoenix home for 52 years, called cops who deployed the bomb squad as a precaution.
Tests later revealed the white powder to be methamphetamine.
"I'm not even sure or not if it was in fact their birthday," Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos told MyFoxPhoenix.
Officers think the sender wanted to use the mailbox as a drop-off point for a dealer, but the homeowners got to the post first.
The couple, who do not want to be named, said they hosed their arms down as a precaution after finding the drugs.
Cops are still trying to figure out who posted the card.
