What started as an alcohol addiction turned into pot, then coke, then meth. Within one year....ONE year....my father went from being the director of a college, making hundreds of thousands a year, living with a loving, close, and supportive family, to living in a crack motel, buying meth off of his neighbors, and completely forgetting about the rest of the world. My family included. He lost his job. He's gone to inpatient and outpatient rehab over 6 times, in the past year. After being cut off from his and my mom's money, he didn't have enough to afford meth, anymore, and turned to prostitution. A man, over 50, married for over 30 years, giving up everything he had in his perfect life, for meth. This drugs kills any natural happiness and replaces it with synthetic joy. Once the high is gone, the addict feels that the only way they can be "happy" again is with the drug. And, so, the vicious cycle starts. My advice to anyone is to really understand the importance of "Not even once." Because just one time will ruin the potential addict's life, and the lives of those around said addict. Someday, I hope to get my dad back. Until then, I can only try to spread knowledge of the drug, and hope to deter others from it.
